MeUndies, a bold and playful brand revolutionizing the way people buy underwear, has grown into a beloved name with millions of subscribers. Known for their quirky designs and ultra-soft fabrics, MeUndies offers a unique subscription service that delights customers with fresh styles each month.
As their customer base expanded, so did their need for a more efficient and scalable platform to support their subscription model and simplify operations. With an aging platform that was struggling to keep up with growth, MeUndies made the decision to migrate to Shopify.
MeUndies’ team turned to Nebulab to bring their vision to life. The goal was to simplify their tech stack, improve the customer experience, and build a future-proof system that could handle the complexities of the brand’s business model.
“MeUndies has always been about creating joy through comfort and surprise. Moving to a modern e-commerce platform was essential to continue delivering that experience as we grow.”
Jonathan ShokrianCEO @ MeUndiesOver the years, MeUndies’ tech stack had become a major bottleneck. Initially built to allow flexibility, their legacy architecture had spiraled into a complex web of interdependent systems that were increasingly difficult and expensive to manage. The system’s complexity also contributed to bugs and errors, leading to inefficiencies that affected both the customer experience and internal operations.
To streamline MeUndies’ operations, we moved from a service-based architecture to a monolithic system while preserving the flexibility needed for the brand’s business model. This new architecture was designed to be easier to manage and evolve, less error-prone, and more cost-efficient.
The reduced complexity freed MeUndies’ engineering team to focus on innovation rather than constant troubleshooting. With fewer services to maintain, the risk of errors or downtime was significantly reduced, and the new system enabled faster implementation of updates and new features. This newfound agility gave MeUndies a solid foundation to scale their business without being held back by technical debt.
MeUndies’ subscription model isn’t your typical “same product, different day” setup. Instead, customers subscribe to categories (like boxer briefs or bralettes) and receive a rotating selection of new designs every month. But as the brand grew, their legacy platform struggled to maintain this experience, slowing down operational processes and making subscription management cumbersome.
We developed a bespoke subscription processing engine that extended Shopify’s native functionality, allowing for more flexible business logic. The system considers customer preferences, stock levels, and proprietary factors to pick the perfect products for each customer.
After the migration, MeUndies achieved a subscription processing success rate of over 99% and experienced a significant reduction in operational bottlenecks. The new subscription engine has empowered their team to easily manage subscriptions while maintaining the fun, surprise-and-delight experience that sets MeUndies apart.
In addition to its core subscription model, MeUndies offers product bundles and mystery packs, allowing customers to mix and match items or receive a surprise assortment. However, Shopify’s native bundle logic couldn’t handle re plus subscription packs in the same checkout, making it difficult to integrate these popular offerings into the new platform.
Nebulab developed custom logic that extended Shopify’s capabilities to accommodate subscription-based orders plus bundles. For the mystery packs, we created an algorithm that automatically selects random items for each customer and allows MeUndies to keep customers excited with every new order.
With Nebulab’s custom solution, MeUndies was able to maintain the integrity of their product offering, allowing them to minimize dead stock and improve customer engagement and retention.
“Nebulab streamlined our commerce stack, allowing us to scale while preserving the flexibility and unique experience that make MeUndies special.”
